WE’RE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNER OF THE NFIB/DEVELOPERTOWN YOUNG ENTREPRENEUR AWARD -- JOEY ZIRILLE, FORT WAYNE, IN!
The NFIB Young Entrepreneur Foundation awards 100 scholarships to the most outstanding young student entrepreneurs in the nation. Applicants must be a senior in high school and be running their own business. Indiana alone accounted for 5 of these winners.
As a company built on the values of entrepreneurship, it only made sense for DeveloperTown to give back to those starting their entrepreneurial endeavors.
MORE ABOUT OUR WINNER
Joey started Bluehand Entertainment in the 8th grade when he and a couple friends bought a small speaker system to use at house parties. Word started to spread that they had some cool equipment and got the attention of their school. They were hired to DJ at the school dance, and things took off from there.
After securing a loan from their parents, they were able to go all out and buy professional grade sound and lighting equipment. They’ve been extremely profitable since, with very little associated costs.
What’s really impressive about Joey and the company is that instead of disbanding or taking it with them upon graduation, they’ll be taking an advisor/owner role and handing off the reigns of the day-to-day operations to younger high school students. They’re already creating jobs and sparking the entrepreneurial spirit in our country’s youth, and THAT is impressive.
Joey will be continuing his education at Indiana University Bloomington in the Fall studying entrepreneurship/business. Good luck, Joey!
